I work in a variety of pastels from hard to very soft, relying on the timeless truths of form, value, and edge to unlock for me a genuine likeness of the subject, while releasing from within the more intuitive decisions of color and design that will evoke a truly unique and personal work. I try to see as earnestly as possible, that I might portray something truthful of the subject. Whether working from life or photographic references, my approach is similarly direct; seeing and responding, where the intuitive mind is actively engaged. In this attitude of immediacy I am most effective in communicating a pure and exciting response to the subject, one that describes the beauty of creation while upholding the goodness and dignity of humanity.
