Working from the live model, Alain will demonstrate a painterly approach to pastel in two sessions. Session 1 will cover the setup and lighting of a successful portrait, establishing the portrait through the recognition of abstract shapes and learning to see and record simplified values.
Session two will focus on refining the portrait through the use of warm and cool colors, lost and found edges, painterly marks and finishing details. Alain's materials and techiniques will be openly discussed throughout the two-part demonstration. Students will then work from the live model with individual instruction at their easels throughout. The workshop will close with a critique, where we'll review our portraits together.
All levels are welcome.
